In Rent-a-Girlfriend, Kazuya has expressed his love for Mizuhara several times throughout the series. However, this can be simply infatuation or the paradox of first love, where someone gets a real taste of romantic love and becomes obsessed with it. More recently, based on their interactions with each other, Ruka Sarashina may actually be a better romantic partner for Kazuya Kinoshita than Mizuhara for a variety of reasons.
Mizuhara and Kazuya haven’t accurately portrayed the couple’s romantic reactions in the series so far. It seems very one-sided, only really highlighted when Mizuhara is helping Kazuya or Kazuya is helping Mizuhara, there hasn’t been a single moment when both Kazuya and Mizuhara are naturally compatible and in love. By comparison, the most recent episode of Rent-a-Girlfriend shows how emotionally balanced Ruka and Kazuya are when together.
Putting aside Kazuya’s love for Mizuhara, if Kazuya decided to be the real Ruka’s boyfriend, rather than just a test, they would be great as a couple due to their natural chemistry. Kazuya can be completely himself with Ruka. While Ruka is non-judgmental and can handle the real personality, Kazuya’s flaws. Ruka did things like casually showering at Kazuya’s place, understanding that Kazuya most likely did it himself in the shower but didn’t really care or make a big deal out of it.
Ruka was more prepared for intimacy with Kazuya, they seemed less awkward when Kazuya and Mizuhara got intimate. Kazuya even fully confesses his sincere feelings about her, how she makes him happy and that she fully cherishes her with all his heart. Before Ruka left her apartment for the first time, she even walked in and kissed Kazuya on the cheek. At this point, unless both Mizuhara and Kazuya can be completely themselves together, not holding back anything like their romantic feelings for each other, Ruka is clearly the winner when it comes to being human.
