Kodoani.com – Popular five-season fantasy anime, Seven Deadly Sins: Nanatsu no Taizai, based on the manga series by Nakaba Suzuki, was an iconic show that caught the attention of many anime fans. The story introduces a world full of magic and different races striving for superiority. The Seven Deadly Sins, a group of powerful warriors, are humanity’s greatest shield against any threat that might place them in grave danger.
Seven Deadly Sins properly revealed the power of the Demon race and the Goddess race but somewhat sketched the true extent of a power that surpassed both clans: Chaos. Chaos was introduced in the final season of the Seven Deadly Sins with Arthur, the “King of Chaos”, at the helm. Chaos is a primitive ability that leaves a lot to be explained. So, what is Chaos and what are Arthur’s true abilities as the King of this powerful entity?
The history of chaos is forgotten
Among the protagonists of the Seven Deadly Sins, only a few know the entity Chaos. Even Meliodas, the current Demon King, possessed minimal knowledge of Chaos’ scope after Arthur was reincarnated as King of Chaos. Going back to the history of Goddesses and Demons, one would discover that ‘Chaos’ played a central role in the creation process of their existence. Chaos is the source of all life; it created the world of the Seven Deadly Sins, the Supreme God, the Demon King, and even the revered Sacred Tree governed by fairies.
Thus, Chaos created Demons, Fairies, and Goddesses, implying that this primordial force is greater than any creature fans have ever seen in the Seven Deadly Sins. Chaos also spawns allies of the Fairies: Giants; however, people were not satisfied with the creation of the Giants. They are brutal, unethical and barbaric, seeking only what they can destroy instead of what they can create. Hindered by this development, the primordial force decided to create man: the perfect combination of positive and negative emotions. However, humans are much weaker than any other race. However, they are still revered as Chaos’ greatest creation because they have something other races don’t: emotional intelligence.
Though Chaos gave life to the supreme god, the head of the Goddess clan, and the Demon King, ruler of the demons, both agreed to seal the divine force. Their reason was not born of any good or just cause but jealousy – both feared that their absolute dominion over the clan would be challenged by Chaos. To prevent this from happening, the Demon King and Supreme God sealed their creator, fulfilling their wish to dominate unchallenged by any other force. However, their goals are never fully accomplished. Chaos was not successfully sealed. The original being still exists in the Mother of Chaos, Hawk Mama; Seven Deadly Sins tour.
Chaos also created Cath Palug, the unprecedented villain in the series, a vengeful creature who believes it must be the real King of Chaos. It once tried to take the power of Chaos but failed, only to be defeated by its creator. Chaos was a silent existence throughout the Seven Deadly Sins until Arthur’s power was revealed.
How powerful is Arthur when he becomes the king of chaos?
Merlin has always shown a clear interest in Arthur from the first season of the series for some reason; she even abandoned the Seven Deadly Sins to watch over Arthur. When Chaos is finally revealed in the series, Merlin’s actions finally make sense. Merlin has always been obsessed with magic, and Chaos is a new development she’s not entirely familiar with. Therefore, it is the perfect development for Merlin to surpass .
During Arthur’s awakening as the “King of Chaos”, Cath, Arthur’s friend and pet, revealed its true nature. The evil creature wanted to eat Arthur and gain the Chaos ability and destroy everything the creature had ever created, but it was unsuccessful. After Arthur fully regained consciousness, a remarkable feat that everyone noticed was his ability to change reality, albeit unconsciously. On the other hand, Cath, after successfully destroying Arthur’s hand, was able to manifest terrible abilities. However, Arthur discovered a way to defeat Cath and absorb the evil creature into his body, and the whole event marked Arthur as King of Chaos.
Chaos is closely associated with Arthur Pendragon as he was chosen by this entity to carry its power. “Chaos” can be a source of great joy and happiness and horror, and also nightmares, depending on how it is used. Once Arthur has full control over Chaos, his potential will be limitless. At this point, it’s fair to say, Arthur is the strongest character in the Seven Deadly Sins. Chaos once produced mighty beings like the Supreme God and the Demon King. So, if Arthur can use that power to the fullest extent, he can erase all races from existence and create another world.
Unfortunately, Chaos is an ability that the Seven Deadly Sins series fails to explain; hopefully, in the sequel to Four Knights Of The Apocalypse, the full extent of Chaos will finally be revealed.
