The first 10 minutes of the movie premieres on YouTube later tonight for a limited time
Kodoani.com – Movie Shin Ultraman new by Studio Khara has sold 2.62 million tickets for 3.9 billion yen (about $28.92 million) in 42 days in theaters, as of Thursday. To celebrate, TOHO will stream the first 10 minutes and 33 seconds of the film on YouTube at 8pm JST.
The film was at number 1 in its first week of release. The film sold 641,802 tickets, grossing 993.410,050 yen (about 7.68 million USD) in its first three days of release.
The film has the highest opening weekend for a live-action Japanese film in 2022 so far.
Shin Ultraman made 17% more in the first three days than Shin Godzilla when it hit theaters in August 2016. Shin Godzilla sold 564,332 tickets, earning 845,675,500 yen in the first three days.
Shin Ultraman was delayed from its previous plan in early summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Takumi Saitou plays the main character of the film, a man who can transform into Ultraman. Masami Nagasawa is the main character’s partner. Hidetoshi Nishijima also stars in the film.
Shin Godzilla director Shinji Higuchi and his Higuchi-Gumi team are directing the project, while Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno is in charge of planning and scripting. Kenshi Yonezu performed the movie’s song “M87.”
