Users from around the world are having trouble downloading Sifu through the PlayStation Store, including early access owners.
Sifu is the long-awaited fighting kung fu title, available for pre-load now via the Epic Games Store and PlayStation Store, but pre-orders can also get an early experience of the game, before its release date is today. February 8. However, PS Store users had problems downloading the game in the first place. Many players who pre-purchased Sifu via the PlayStation Store found themselves unable to download game files prior to launch. The problem is especially acute for Deluxe Edition owners, who may have purchased it to be able to play 48 hours earlier.
From the information currently available about the issue, it appears that only PlayStation users are unable to download the game. Another problem lies in the fact that Sifu was originally supposed to release two weeks later, on February 22nd, with ongoing issues influencing public opinion that the title’s early release date may have caused. The bottom line for the ongoing PS Store problems is that Sifu only has 7.6GB of download space on the PlayStation. When the PS preload is finally made available, the odds are high that everyone will be able to enjoy the game shortly. On the other hand, of course, there’s still the problem that Deluxe Edition owners don’t get the 48 hours’ worth of early access promised in the first place.
The developers acknowledged the issue via Twitter, saying they were aware of the PlayStation Store preloading issue. According to the official response and based on the fact that the problems are limited to the PlayStation Store, the problem may lie with Sony and not with the developers. However, it’s a big deal for players who might have been excited to see how Sifu’s combat system differs from the rest of the competition.
Indeed, PC players don’t seem to report the same problems. An Epic Games Store exclusive, Sifu’s PC preload and early access times seem to be relatively flawless, with Deluxe Edition owners already enjoying the game’s early access. Sifu will also have a disc release in 2022, which should be able to solve the problems the game is currently having.
