The sequel to Konami’s venerable horror title is considered by many to be the best survival horror title of all time and a Silent Hill 2 remake is rumored to be in the works. Not only did the second installment Silent Hill have a groundbreaking plot, but the use of motion capture was particularly impressive at the time.
Silent Hill 2 is 21 years old at this point, but even without a remake, fans will still enjoy the game just as much as they did in 2001. The game focuses on psychological horror and building environment, giving a completely different feel than other survival horror games like in the role of Resident Evil. Ranging from the ferocious complex villain Pyramid Head to the enigmatic protagonist James Sunderland, there are plenty of interesting lore and secrets to uncover in Silent Hill 2.
On the anniversary of the release of Konami’s venerable horror game, GameSpot has shared footage of the motion capture techniques used in Silent Hill 2 and many other video games. The footage features actors wearing sophisticated motion capture equipment from the 2001s, interactively acting between James and characters like Maria and Laura. It’s just as exciting to see the real-life actors in action compared to what Silent Hill 2 players have seen time and time again and the extent to which video games have evolved over the course of two decades.
Silent Hill 2’s love doesn’t seem to have faded, although fans are conflicted about Bloober Team’s rumored Silent Hill 2 remake. Although Bloober Team is responsible for other horror titles like Layers of Fear and Blair Witch, some Silent Hill players believe the product should stay the same. It will be difficult for fans to meet Silent Hill 2’s standards, as over the course of two decades they’ve appreciated the sadness and complexity of a survival horror title that doesn’t necessarily rely on fighting, gore, and fear, but can still be terrifying in its own right. If a real remake is in the works, Bloober Team might be the best developer to do it.
Even after the unfortunate fate of Silent Hills and the demise of PT, rumors about the Silent Hill project are now circulating. Includes a remake of Silent Hill 2, the first all-new title since 2012 and a choice-based spin-off. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Silent Hill fans are keeping their faith in the beloved series’ revival. After more than two decades and a lot of progress in game development, even the oldest Silent Hill installments still impress.
