Rumors of a new Silent Hill game have been circulating for years, and director Christophe Gans has confirmed Konami is rebooting the series.
With the Resident Evil 4 Remake coming next year and gameplay footage of it just released, we could see an opportunity to reimagine the beloved classics of the modern gaming era. This is what a lot of fans and studios are looking forward to. Another horror game series that has been popular for a long time is Silent Hill, but we have no official word on whether a new game in the series will be made. Happily, it looks like a rebranding is underway.
Those are the words of director Christophe Gans, who made the 2006 film adaptation of Silent Hill. In an interview with Jeux Actu that was translated by Gamingsyn and posted on Resetera, the director said that Konami was very interested in the relaunch of Silent Hill. During the interview, Gans said that the series will definitely return and possibly incorporate the next film adaptation he is currently working on. No further details have been given about the possible reboot of the series, but it seems Gans is extremely certain that the classic horror series will return.
Apparently, Konami has been pushed to bring the Silent Hill franchise back, thanks in part to the success of Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake. It makes sense that the studio wanted to reboot Silent Hill not only because of the level of success of the RE Remake games, but also because rumors of a new Silent Hill game have been around for a long time. While we still have no official word from Konami, the interview with Gans is sure to give a lot of fans new hope.
Initially the community thought that Bloober Team would remake Silent Hill 2, however since the appearance of those rumors Bloober Team has only announced the continuation of its Layers of Fear games, this may lead some to refute previous speculations. But that’s not necessarily a baseless rumor because it’s not too unusual for studios to work on more than one project at the same time.
Either way, it looks like Silent Hill might be making a return in the form of a reboot of the franchise. The gaming community has heard countless leaks and rumors in the past but nothing has happened in the present, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if some have given up on expecting a new game. But the script for the new Silent Hill movie adaptation was recently completed by Gans, and the film is due out next year, so at least we can still expect and hope for a little more.
