The new Sniper Elite 5 trailer from Rebellion details numerous improvements to the kill shot, reminiscent of Fallout’s VATS.
Rebellion showcased Sniper Elite 5’s new upgraded ending shot in a recently released trailer for the upcoming game. The Sniper Elite 5 was announced last year and promises to bring the brand to France for the first time. Rebellion hopes to improve on the most prominent feature of the series with enhanced visuals and more in-depth player control of the ending shot.
Released in 2005 and developed by Rebellion Developments, Sniper Elite is a series of third-person tactical shooter games, best known for their Kill Cam mechanics. When the player makes a special shot with their rifle, the Kill Cam will track the bullet’s path and sometimes into the enemy during slow motion. With each entry in the series, Kill Cam has attempted to portray the more gruesome details of each murder, displaying an accurate depiction of where the bullet penetrated the target while still in motion. Kill Cam has become more advanced with each new Sniper Elite game, with new ways to perform Kill Cam through melee attacks, showing bullets firing at various other enemies, and even carving damage internal organs.
In a new YouTube trailer, fans get a glimpse of the latest Kill Cam incarnation of Sniper Elite 5. Sniper Elite 5 is graphically enhanced by offering new levels of gruesome precision as Kill Cam now feels like a visceral mashup of Fallout’s VATS system, while also allowing players to witness their finish in slow motion and Mortal Kombat’s X-Ray system, visible Displays a variety of combat moves in grisly detail. Players can now track bullets through certain points on the human body. These improved visuals in Sniper Elite 5 also enable Kill Cam’s newest feature, which splashes bullets inside objects. Bullets now shoot out of your target’s bones and into other body parts dealing more severe injuries.
Along with the visual improvements, the Sniper Elite 5 will offer some mechanical additions to the Kill Cam feature. In addition to sniper rifles and melee attacks, players will be able to use SMG’s iron sights and pistols to trigger the Kill Cam feature for the first time on these weapons. Over time, players have come to know several Kill Cam options, namely being able to adjust the frequency of the Kill Cam or turn it off completely. Sniper Elite 5 will now allow players to adjust the speed of the Kill Cam in real time and also control the camera angles.
While the improvements to Kill Cam are impressive, Rebellion promises a number of other upgrades and improvements for Sniper Elite players to enjoy. Hidden within the missions are workbenches that give the player weapon customization options and the ability to change weapon load mid-mission. Along with the single-player campaign, which can also be enjoyed through two-player co-op, and a 16-player competitive multiplayer mode, Rebellion is introducing a brand new Invasion mode. This mode allows another player to join another player’s campaign and task the invading player with eliminating the campaign server.
Rebellion is taking extra care to perfect its 17-year-old series, and the improvements to Kill Cam in Sniper Elite 5 alone could be a fan attraction. With the release date fast approaching, players won’t have to wait long to enjoy all the macabre details of their next enemy finish.
