Kodoani.com – A website has been launched announcing that Tsukasa Ooshima’s soccer-themed manga, Soccer-Themed Shoot! is adapting its first new anime series in 28 years. The anime is titled Shoot! Goal to the Future, will air in 2022. EMT Squared is producing the anime.
The anime’s official website describes the story:
Atsushi Kamiya, the former captain of Kakegawa High School and the world-renowned “brave captain” of the famous Italian soccer team…
And Hideto Tsuji, a student at Kakegawa High School who seemed uninterested in the now-decimated soccer team…
Their meeting is the beginning of a new legend…
The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Magazine Weekly Shōnen from 1990 to 2003. The series has more than 50 million copies in print. The manga’s story revolves around a boy named Toshihiko Tanaka who convinces his friends to join the soccer team and participate in the All Japan High School Championship.
The manga inspired the anime Aoki Densetsu Shoot! produced by Toei Animation debuted in 1993. A short follow-up film was released in 1994.
The manga also got live action in 1994 with members of the boy band SMAP in the lead roles.
A side story manga by isekai titled Shoot! no Sekai ni Gon Nakayama ga Tensei Shite Shimatta Ken (That Time Gon Nakayama Got Reincarcar in the World of Shoot!) premieres in 2020. The manga tells the story of professional soccer player Masashi Nakayama, better known as Gon Nakayama, reincarnated into the world of shoot! and impress the world with his skills.
