The film became the most-watched Paramount+ original movie of all time
Kodoani.com – Side story film Knuckles in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has officially surpassed the 4 million watch hour mark in its opening weekend, according to information released by Deadline on Friday. According to Deadline, viewership of the Sonic the Hedgehog series increased globally by 278% compared to the previous daily average following the release of Knuckles.
The series premiered on April 26 in the US and Canada on Paramount+, consisting of six episodes. The series then began streaming from April 27 in other territories on the same platform. The film is expected to premiere in Japan later this year, with the original plan scheduled for 2023.
The show focuses on the character Knuckles, with Idris Elba taking on the lead role. Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor also join the cast. Guest stars include Rory McCann, Adam Pally plays Wade Whipple, and Tika Sumpter returns as Maddie in a guest role. Cary Elwes, Stockard Channing, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel also appear.
The film's plot takes place between the second and third live-action installments of the series. Knuckles trains Wade to become his protégé and teaches him the ways of the Echidna warrior.
Director Jeff Fowler returned to direct the first episode, along with directors Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, Toru Nakahara, and Elba are executive producers. John Whittington, along with writers Brian Schacter and James Madejski, wrote the script.
