Episode 10 Spy x Family is so cool! This is the funniest episode so far. It’s always very entertaining with any episode where Anya is the focus. Not to mention, this volume also feels like turning the plot in the direction of Gintama with a lot of humorous satire.
Anya finally moved a little closer to Damian, even if the boy was still a little annoyed. What I find interesting is how they seamlessly incorporated an extra chapter into episode 10 of Spy x Family and I loved it. Henderson’s regular morning screenings are indeed a fitting addition to the content of this episode.
Damion may have only had a little bit of acting time, but I really feel sorry for him. Damian not only lives in the shadow of his very famous brother who has achieved many achievements, but also struggles to win any attention from his father. For a six-year-old, it was a terrible way to spend his childhood days. In a way, Damian and Anya are alike. Both are constantly struggling to prove themselves to attract the attention of parents. And while Loid gradually warms to Anya, she still feels the pressure to succeed in school so as not to be an obstacle to her mission and fears being left out if she can’t live up to expectations. But I think the biggest difference is that Loid is actually spending time and effort trying to connect with Anya better while Damian’s dad isn’t interacting with him at all. I’m sure this can somehow become a sticking point between the two, but I feel like it’s going to be a tough topic to talk about. Especially since they’re both kids.
Rumors in the classroom that the MVP in the upcoming pitching tournament could win Stella Stars has both Damian and Anya vying for that spot for their own “missions”. Of course we got to see a few snippets of the preparation process. Unlike how I feel about Anya getting into Eden, I really like the expansion that WIT Studio and CloverWorks did with episode 10 Spy x Family. Especially since it feels like a cute bonding moment between Anya and Yor as they practice together and it doesn’t feel like a complement. I also really liked the little development Loid showed in trusting and leaving the preparation to Yor. However, that might be because he never really believed that a Stella Star would be given for this game. I died laughing as Anya meditated under the waterfall, only to return to the fact that she was dozing off beside Yor. The short montages of Damian’s little training session are also cute because I’m sure that’s what actual kids would do. Although after that there was a bit of a Dragon Ball Z smell that made everyone laugh.
That’s not a preschooler at all. Honestly, I think Bill has to be the funniest part in episode 10 of Spy x Family. The humor is even doubled when listening to Bill’s voiceover in the anime. As soon as he spoke, I’m sure many viewers had to wonder how far the story would go. Not to mention, then even more ridiculous when the boy’s father also has the same VA. This child may not look like a small child among other small children, but compared to his father, he definitely looks more like his age. Not to mention Bill saying “Daddy” in a grown man’s voice was just too hilarious.
Meanwhile, many viewers may not like them, but I have to give two of Damian’s friends some respect. Whatever the circumstances, the two boys were willing to die for Damian, even if a ball was thrown in the face. Although I had to laugh at how ridiculously dramatic they were, the trio did a great job against such an absurdly strong opponent.
The whole pitching game was so much fun that watching Damian’s outrageous attacks, Becky instantly made me forget that Anya could read minds in the moment and was dodging them all. Personally, I love that she doesn’t even move and accidentally lets another kid take a hit. Though the part after Damian jumps in to save Anya and hopes she goes into full serious mode only to fail in the funniest way possible is the point of sheer humor. While I’m sure Anya has strength, the timing and accuracy of throwing an object takes a lot of practice.
It turns out that the rumors about the in-game MVP getting the Stella Star ended up being just a rumor. Looks like Loid was right not to get too excited about the aspect of Anya being able to get Stella Stars in a silly game. Although I have to admit it’s really cute that Bill’s classmates are so supportive of him and even try to comfort him when he’s threatened about getting a Tonitrus because of his unsportsmanlike attitude. . Despite looking and appearing like a powerful man, Bill still behaves like his childish age. Though it looks like Anya and Damian will earn Stella due to them putting their differences aside to work as a team throughout the game. Unfortunately, Damian ruined that opportunity when Anya ruined the game with her wonderful miss. From here, the two started getting better together.
I also want to thank Henderson because he really puts my mind at ease. He is eyeing the potential of all these kids and really wants all of them to do their best. While Henderson doesn’t really take Anya seriously, it’s actually cute to have some respect for Anya’s ability to dodge. Although before the aspect of the children need to play elegantly. I’m not sure how elegant a game of handball can be?
Episode 10 of Spy x Family is fun and probably the first volume where I feel it’s better in the manga. Especially since I think they did a much better job of adjusting the order and framing. The extras they added didn’t feel superfluous as it added to the overall plot and the respective connections of the characters. We’re only two episodes away from cour 1 and I’m curious where they’re going to end it. I hope they integrate more sub-chapters because quite a few of them are strong laughs. Especially the penguin chap. If you have read the manga and already know. I hope we see something similar again in the future of Spy x Family.
