In episode 9 of Spy x Family, Anya stops herself from telling Loid something – but why would she do this?

Anya’s life continues to get more interesting as Season 1 of Spy x Family continues. Not only has she been a spy for her father and an assassin for her mother, but she now has an uncle who is a Secret Police (whatever that means but at least it sounds great). Unfortunately, Anya missed out on all the chaos that ensued when her mother, father, and uncle met and was understandably sad that Loid didn’t wake her up.
However, in episode 9, she noticed something strange in the air between Yor and Loid. There was a moment when Anya opened her mouth to say something during breakfast time but at the last second she changed her mind and said that Yor’s food was terrible. Why didn’t Anya say anything? And what might she want to say?
After discovering that Yor’s younger brother is part of the Secret Police, Loid must be extra careful about what he says and does. The same is true when he is near Yor. He worries that she might not be what she says she is, and might be romantically involved with Yuri. Loid seems calm on the surface, but Anya is reading everything he’s thinking – including the fact that he orders himself to doubt everything. Anya wanted to say something to convince him that Yor wasn’t like that at all, but she clearly couldn’t.
In the Spy x Family manga, this scene is drawn in a more humorous way with Anya’s cute expression as she stops midway. However, in the anime, it’s a bit more expansive and has a much more somber tone while Anya’s expression shows more horror. When she turns away, the only thing the viewer can see is the lower half of her face in the reflection of the spoon with her clenched fist. It’s a classic technique to show someone is hiding something.
Formerly known as Test Subject 007, Anya is the accidental product of an experiment. The scientists there told her that she must never tell anyone about her powers. It’s unlikely she intentionally told anyone she could read their minds, but it’s possible that she accidentally said something that could trigger a warning.
Even if she hadn’t been told by the scientists, Anya would have known from being flustered around multiple foster homes that telling people about her psychic abilities would be a bad thing. There may have been a time, while trying to help her adoptive parents resolve an argument, she accidentally revealed that she could read their minds and she was eventually kicked out. After many cases, Anya will learn over time that keeping her mouth shut is the right thing to do. Because of this, she must mature quickly and carefully choose what she can and cannot say.
Anya loves her family; when she senses the tension between Loid and Yor – with the former being suspicious Yor and the latter worried that Loid’s separation is due to his disappointment in her ability to be a wife – she wants to make it better. This is natural – no child wants to see their parents fight. Maybe she wanted to reassure Loid that Yor wasn’t lying to get close to him for her brother’s sake.
Anya can read people’s minds but she can’t predict the future. She had no way of knowing what the fallout might be if she said this, and it was too much of a risk to take. While being a psychic also has its advantages – such as Anya helping Loid catch a wallet robber or getting Loid and Yor to meet in the first place – from experience, Anya knows it can do more harm than good. helpful.
It was the first time in a long time Anya felt loved and protected like this. The little girl loves her father and mother so much that she fears that saying something, even with good intentions, might destroy the delicate balance they have. Anya said nothing because she didn’t want to lose her parents who gave her a family. After all, Anya is the only one who knows the truth about both her parents’ real careers. Anya was an only child, and being stuck in the middle and carrying that weight was an incredibly painful position.
