Square Enix said that they are planning to soon announce Final Fantasy 35th anniversary plans to thank fans of the series.
Publisher Square Enix mentioned its plans for the series during a financial meeting on Friday, briefed on Twitter by Japan-based analyst and investment advisor David Gibson.
Square Enix has been told it plans to release several new games this year, but its plans are all centered around its flagship franchise. They said they would be looking forward to releasing news regarding Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary plans this month or next.
They also note that they have high expectations for Final Fantasy 16, which is expected to be shown again soon via a new trailer. The original Final Fantasy was released on the Famicom in Japan on December 18, 1987, meaning the series would mark the series’ 35th birthday later this year. Square Enix recently launched a website to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy, which also reveals news about future titles that are about to be released.
“In this 35th anniversary year, we’re bringing you many exciting new ways to enjoy the world of Final Fantasy,” the website said. Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is also likely to be announced soon, with producer Yoshinori Kitase confirming during a January live stream that he wants to reveal the good news during the series’ 35th anniversary .
Final Fantasy XIV was Square Enix’s most successful game for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, the company announced on Friday. Boosted by the launch of the game’s Endwalker expansion in December, the MMO title’s revenue helped offset a decline in the company’s ‘HD Games’ segment, where titles like Outriders and Guardians of the Galaxy fell short of expectations.
