Bethesda announced they are postponing two games, including the highly anticipated Starfield, and revealed their new release dates.
Last year, Bethesda announced Starfield’s release date as November 11, 2022. It’s always been a special day for Bethesda, and some might recognize it as the anniversary of Skyrim’s release. Although this release date announcement comes very soon. Bethesda has also repeated that they are confident it can meet Starfield’s release date. However, in a shocking announcement, Bethesda has postponed the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG, as well as Arkane Studios’ Redfall.
Starfield is positioned as one of the biggest releases of the upcoming holiday season, especially for Xbox. The Starfield delay means there’s currently no main Xbox exclusive setup for the busiest game season of the year. It should be noted, however, that this could easily change at the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, scheduled for June 9.
In an announcement on its media page, Bethesda confirmed the delay of both Starfield and Redfall, revealing that they will release in the first half of 2023. This delay, depending on the exact time of the release. , which means Starfield could hit the market from February to July many months later than planned. Redfall never had a publicly revealed release date, just a release time. On the one hand, the past few years have seen a lot of delays, but on the other hand it’s shocking simply because of how special that day was for Bethesda.
Bethesda and Arkane are both dedicated to releasing their games in the most polished state they can, which is the reason given for the delay. Bethesda ended the announcement by saying that it can’t wait to show fans the gameplay of Starfield and Redfall any time soon, perhaps suggesting both games will still be available at Xbox and the Bethesda Games Showcase. Both have been launched before and it is unlikely that they will ignore it now. This breaks Bethesda’s typical approach of a big reveal over the summer followed by a release later that year, but if this leads to a better game at launch, many will very happy.
Recently, a former Bethesda employee revealed a few details of Starfield and commented on the possibility of a delay. Suggestion that Bethesda could trim content to meet the release date has now been delayed. They really think the game has too much content, with Bethesda focusing on “finding fun” and finding bugs in this “redundant content”, but in the end all this How that happens remains to be tested in the future.
