Last week, Capcom made headlines after launching a mysterious countdown website that ended today. While many hoped that the countdown would lead to the reveal of Resident Evil Village’s much-anticipated DLC, it turns out that this is the official announcement announcing the Street Fighter 6 title. As for the sequel that might surprise some people, it’s worth noting that Street Fighter 6 rumors have been rampant online for a while now. Not to mention, the Street Fighter series is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, making 2022 the right time for the developer to talk about a new mainstream Street Fighter game.
Ahead of today’s announcement, some evidence pointed to Street Fighter 6 as Capcom’s next big project. This clue stems from a major Ransomware hack that hit Capcom’s database in 2020, which revealed a document revealing that Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2022. Of course, since Capcom has yet to announce the game’s release date, it may not be until early 2023 for the game to come out. Even so, Capcom’s reveal that Street Fighter 6 is in development is a step in the right direction for the studio. The official announcement of Street Fighter 6 was accompanied by a short trailer, where we can see two main characters, Ryu and Luke (SF5’s 45th character) with completely new looks. Unfortunately, the teaser doesn’t reveal any gameplay segments, which could indicate that the game is still in its early stages.
In addition, the trailer introducing the iconic character Ryu suggests that Street Fighter 6 will have a more realistic art style than previous versions. Capcom says it will reveal more information this summer, hoping to reveal a Street Fighter 6 release date. While it’s yet to be seen what Street Fighter 6 will bring, fans are hopeful. that they will see a better debut than their predecessor Street Fighter 5. It should be remembered that the reaction to Street Fighter 5, released in 2016, did not meet Capcom’s expectations. However, subsequent releases such as Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition and Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition received better responses from fans of the fighting game genre.
In addition to Street Fighter 6, Capcom also announced via the official Street Fighter Twitter account to release a new collection of Capcom’s great fighting games on June 24, 2022. It’s called Capcom Fighting Collection. , this bundle features iconic fighting titles like the entirety of Darkstalkers seasons and is slated to be released on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Street Fighter 6 is currently still in development.
