In SAO, Kirito doesn’t always show his love for Asuna, but when he does, it’s cool. Here are some of the sweetest moments from the series.
Kodoani.com – Kirito’s Sword Art Online loves Asuna, but he seems to have a hard time showing it. While Lightning can appear likable and welcoming, the Black Swordsman will often appear stern and cold. For all the time they spend together, they feel more like they are in a pure friendship than a romantic relationship. Despite that, there are moments throughout SAO where Kirito’s true feelings shine through to remind fans of why the two of them are together.
Below are the conditions for selecting these moments. For variety, moments from the original Aincrad Arc will be kept to a minimum. Movies and OVAs have varying degrees of canon, so the validity of their romantic moments will be up to fans’ discretion. Also, note that the infamous Chapter 16.5 of the light novel series will also be omitted. Marrying Asuna seemed to be an obvious thing, so it happened too. This is about finding those rare moments where Kirito reveals his more sensitive side and proves that he and Asuna are meant for each other.
Eat The Food She Cooks
The fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. During his time in Aincrad, Kirito was constantly impressed by Asuna’s cooking skills and enjoyed her cooking. He even gives her a Ragout Rabbit, a rare ingredient, so that the two can enjoy a delicious meal together. The guy didn’t really remember anything about that day other than the meal, but certainly remembered how well Asuna’s cooking was.
There was also a cute moment between the two of them on the 74th Floor. Here, Asuna showed how she uses her cooking skills to recreate the flavors of real-world condiments like mayonnaise and soy. Kirito advised her to sell her food, but withdrew her statement for fear that there would be nothing left for him. Asuna told him that she would be ready to make food for him anytime, which made her blush slightly.
Meet Her In The Real World
The amount of time that Kirito was reunited with Asuna in the real world was almost unbelievable. The first part came when he left SAO for the first time. After being trapped in the game for two years, he was severely malnourished and his body was nothing but skin and bones. Despite his weakened condition, his first instinct is to get off his hospital bed and use the IV pillar as crutches as he goes looking for his in-game wife.
Then actually saved Asuna from ALO. This seems to be the natural thing to do for the protagonist, but a lot has happened. Kirito must defeat a game designed to be inaccessible, fight a game administrator, and then battle the same administrator armed with a knife in the real world. The hurdles Kirito jumped over to bring Asuna back were absolutely insane.
Reminiscing About Their Wooden House
Mentioning Log House is a good way to get Kirito or Asuna to talk. This getaway on the 22nd floor of Aincrad was where the two of them had moved in together after getting married. They had all sorts of fond memories of this place, including going fishing, finding and taking care of Yui. Apparently that’s also where Chapter 16.5 takes place; again, fans are allowed to interpret the chapter as regular or irregular depending on how they feel about it.
When the Log House reappeared in the second half of the second season, Kirito and Asuna looked back at it fondly. There was even a moment when the two held hands quite sweetly. When given the opportunity to redeem it in New Aincrad, they immediately rushed through Level 21 to be able to receive the first rewards in their favorite key.
Help Her And Yuuki Get Out
Kirito isn’t really romantic in Mother Rosario’s Story, but his support isn’t appreciated. His first big help came when Asuna and Yūki challenged the 27th floor Boss. In order to have all of their names engraved on the Monument of the Swordsman, the Sleep Knights Guild must defeat the Boss on their own, but a rival Clan wants the same glory. Kirito and the rest of Asuna’s friends appeared to hold back the other guild while she and the Sleep Knights defeated the Boss. This gesture reminded Asuna how much she loved Kirito.
Some more support until Asuna wants to meet Yūki in real life. First, Kirito found the hospital where Yūki was bedridden. He then uses a camera he’s been working on to show Yūki the real world from the virtual world. Kirito indirectly showed his affection by helping Asuna.
Save Her Life
The SAO Progressive anime series offers fans a glimpse Kirito has just begun to take an interest in Asuna. On Level 1, an inexperienced Asuna was attacked and nearly killed by a giant Character. However, before it could reduce her health to zero, Kirito rushed in to save and kill the monster. It’s like something out of a fairy tale.
What’s really interesting about this interaction is how Kirito treats Asuna. He regularly approaches her to make sure she’s okay. She was too stunned to answer, so the guy just left her some potions and map data that would help her get back to town. He couldn’t even look her in the eye when he did. He awkwardly tried to search his sword and left. The funny thing is that when she met him again disguised in a cape, he treated her like any other person.
