Thanks to his masterful calligraphy skills, this teacher was called a “printer” by Chinese netizens because of his picturesque writing.
Teacher Zhang Shifeng in central China has attracted hundreds of thousands of followers on social media by posting videos of calligraphy like a professional artist.
Teacher said:
“Hopefully his videos will inspire and love calligraphy to the younger generation.”
Mr. Zhang is not only an art teacher in Henan province, but also has a passion for calligraphy. Thanks to his ability to write calligraphy in perfect kanji and beautiful handwriting, this teacher was called Printer by netizens.
Many people consider this ability of teachers to be rare at the present time. In today’s modern society, people mainly communicate with each other through digital means, but forget to hone their handwriting skills, even considering it unnecessary.
Teacher Zhang’s videos focus on demonstrating his masterful calligraphy skills and teaching how to write kanji for viewers. The materials used by the teacher are very simple, only consisting of a blackboard and white chalk, not complicated with paper and ink, etc. He also often gives examples in Chinese literature for viewers to understand and visualize.
Currently, this teacher owns nearly 500,000 followers on the Douyin platform.
Mr. Zhang shared:
“When writing on the blackboard, I always try to write as beautiful and clear as possible, I write correctly in a modern printer font so that students can easily observe and be more interested. The kids used to call me the Printer Teacher because of that.”
Teacher Zhang Shifeng showed a passion for calligraphy from an early age. He always wants to pass this passion on to the younger generation to preserve the beauty of the country’s writing.
Since the age of 7, Mr. Zhang has been trained to write all kinds of basic calligraphy horizontally and vertically. In college, he majored in art and fine arts. After graduating from school, he became an art teacher to continue his passion since childhood.
Although he was passionate about calligraphy from a young age, it was not until 2014 that this teacher seriously studied calligraphy from famous masters, and before that he completely relied on his hobby and self-study.
“I hope my students can feel the beauty of the written word, moreover, the cultural beauty of the country. Through writing, children can practice patience, carefulness and accuracy.”
More than just a teacher, with his talent in calligraphy, this 45-year-old teacher has achieved some great achievements. He is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphy Research Association and a national lecturer of the Chinese Calligraphy Association. Mr. Zhang also received the excellent painter award from the Zhongnan Academy of Painting (under the Chinese Couples Association).
Mr. Zhang was recognized as a font designer by the Founder of Peking University and Hanyi of China. His educational methods and research work have won numerous provincial and national awards. The “Zhongyuange” calligraphy practice method researched by this teacher himself has received a national patent.
Talents like Mr. Zhang are seen as examples of preserving the beauty of the country’s culture, because most young people today don’t seem to pay attention to their handwriting. Nearly 1,500 university students in Sichuan admitted in a survey that they forgot how to hold a pen and write kanji.
A student of Mr. Zhang shared:
“Before, I thought calligraphy was just writing, but after seeing my teacher put his heart into it, I realized that calligraphy is amazing.”
