The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Nintendo’s beloved series, has received a release date.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the next game in Nintendo’s beloved fantasy series, has finally received its title and release date.
The upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was given an official name and release date during this past Nintendo Direct. The 2017 open-world fantasy game received a standing ovation upon release for its open-ended game design and unique atmosphere. Earlier this year, Nintendo delayed Zelda: BOTW 2 to spring 2023, and now fans have an official release date for the highly anticipated title.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has given fans a fascinating new look at Nintendo’s long-running fantasy series. Instead of letting the player traverse a linear series of areas and caves, BOTW allows the player to freely choose how and where to proceed with Link’s quest. Most of the game’s content can be completed in any order, and there are ways to conquer each individual objective throughout the journey. After the massive success of the game, Nintendo quickly announced that a sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild was in the works. Fans have long speculated about the official title of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and this speculation has now come to an end.
A spectacular new trailer, posted by Nintendo to YouTube, has revealed the official title of the sequel to be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom during the Nintendo Direct in September 2022. The title of the game is May 12, 2023 was also announced during the event. The interesting trailer begins with a series of temple carvings, seemingly depicting Hyrule’s invasion and Link’s quest to rescue Zelda. The hero is then seen running and jumping from a floating island before landing on the back of a flying creature, with footage showing him solving puzzles and climbing large tree roots.
Earlier trailers showed floating islands in Zelda: BOTW 2, although the game’s plot remains unclear. However, the official title of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could provide some brand new insight into the upcoming title’s fictional plot. Breath of the Wild introduced players to a post-apocalyptic version of Hyrule, so perhaps the upcoming sequel will focus on rebuilding the fractured kingdom back to its former glory. Floating islands can be an important part of this puzzle, as they appear to be fragmented rather than forming a unified airspace.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating the title of BOTW 2, and now the project has been officially revealed as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The title reflects Breath of the Wild, while also hinting at an entirely new focus for Nintendo’s next open-world adventure. As revealed during the Nintendo Direct, fans will be able to experience The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom when the title releases on May 12, 2023.
