An error on the PlayStation Store caused the game Tekken 2 on PS1 to be sold for more than 200 million dong and the director of Tekken also had to speak up.
Throughout Tekken’s long history, Tekken 2 has remained a fan favorite from the early days of the series.
The arrival of Sony’s newly structured PS Plus service has brought a lot of classic games from throughout PlayStation’s history to modern consoles. The new PS Plus model gives Premium subscribers access to a vast library of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP platforms. Many of these games have also been made available to purchase separately for non-PS Plus Premium subscribers. However, the gaming community quickly realized the classic fighting game Tekken 2 was accompanied by a ridiculous price.
Throughout Tekken’s long history, Tekken 2 has remained a fan favorite from the early days of the series. This classic fighting game was re-released several times after its release on arcade systems in 1995, ported to PS1 a year later, and then to PS3 and PSP via the PlayStation Store. However, with the discontinuation of the “PS1 Classics” titles after the Vita, Tekken 2 has been unavailable to play on modern PlayStation consoles to date. Now that the game is back, gamers who don’t subscribe to PS Plus quickly notice that the game’s store page offers an oddly high price tag of $9,999.99.
Recently, Sony’s addition of new classic PS Plus games to the store accidentally caused the Tekken 2 to appear for an exorbitant price of nearly $10,000. Many Tekken fans took to Twitter to tease Sony about the price, and even Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada joined in on the fun. The game’s erroneous pricing is a particularly odd situation as fans realize that Tekken 2 is not intended to be open to the public to non-PS Plus subscribers.
Even the director of the Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada, joined in the fun “kicking” Sony.
This classic fighting game is clearly not the only game to fall victim to the nearly $10,000 price tag. Other gamers noticed that another game had the same problem, the puzzle game Mr. Driller is also listed for $10,000 with no intention of going public. This isn’t the first time Sony’s sales platform has had issues, as a bug last year also caused Spiders developer Spiders’ RPG game GreedFall to be listed at a similar price. Pricing issues with both Tekken 2 and Mr. Driller has been settled with both games that are now encouraging gamers to subscribe to PS Plus.
While Tekken 2 brings the classic from Tekken’s early days to modern consoles, the Tekken series has evolved a lot since then. Bandai Namco has yet to announce Tekken 8 after last year’s Tekken 7: Definitive Edition but in the future they will probably roll out new announcements soon. Meanwhile, Capcom also recently revealed that the next big street of Street Fighter coming out next year is Street Fighter 6. Tekken fans are hoping for Tekken 2’s arrival on modern consoles as well. like the long-awaited reveal of Tekken 8.
