Tencent has now acquired Polish developer 1C Entertainment for an undisclosed amount. The agreement was reached in November last year.
Meanwhile, 1C Entertainment and all subsidiaries bearing the 1C name will be renamed within 6 months after the transaction is completed.
To date, 1C Entertainment has released more than 100 games, the most famous of which are the development of the King’s Bounty series, the Il 2 aircraft simulation game and the Man of War series.
In addition, 1C Entertainment is the publisher of many indie games in Europe, including the upcoming first-person action puzzle game Graven.
1C Entertainment, the Polish studio behind games like King’s Bounty, is expected to help Tencent in conquering the European game market, expanding its business and influence in Eastern Europe.
Tencent acquired shares previously held by parent company 1C. Under the terms of the agreement, 1C Entertainment and any 1C-branded subsidiaries will be renamed.
Tomasz Nieszporski, 1C Entertainment board member, said: “We are really excited about this acquisition. This is a great opportunity for 1CE to achieve our biggest dreams and aspirations in the video game business. Our vision and passion will now be backed by a leading global game company and I am humbled by the unique opportunity to work alongside Tencent and other top creative minds. of the global ecosystem”.
Li Shen, CTO of Tencent Games Global, added: “We are delighted to be working with the talented team at 1C Entertainment, supporting them as they begin a new phase of development.”
The deal reached last November will see Tencent take full ownership of the shares owned by the parent company.
This is an opportunity for 1CE to further assert its prestige in the video game business. The company’s vision of the game will expand globally when working with Tencent.
Earlier in the week, Tencent also announced that it has acquired a majority stake in Inflexion Games to produce more exciting games in the future.
