During this year’s Jump Festa, My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi revealed that his hit manga will end in 2022. This is something the author planned years ago to ensure a perfect baby. his god got the ending he wanted.
My Hero Academia has been one of the most successful manga of the past decade since it began serialization on the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014. The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without have special powers (“quirks”) in a society revolving around popular superheroes.
Midoriya received the power called “One For All” from his idol, the number one hero All Might, and entered a high school for superheroes to study. The series has been very well received from worldwide readers with 65 million copies published as of January 2022.
In the April 10 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Horikoshi published a small note in which he said what his next work would be, after My Hero Academia ended: “I have a wish. small is to draw a horror manga”.
Horror manga is not the most popular genre these days but there are some famous masterpieces by the horror king Junji Ito. 2022 will see Ito’s popular Uzumaki get an anime adaptation by Cartoon Network. Horikoshi is appreciated by fans for creating many horror details in My Hero Academia and many readers think that he fits this genre very well.
Before My Hero Academia, Horikoshi tried his hand at the sci-fi genre with a one-shot called Barrage, which was later expanded into a series of short stories in Weekly Shonen Jump. However, this author’s preference for horror was more evident in My Hero Academia, a series containing many gruesome scenes.
Most notably, the My Villain Academia section, which explores the past of villains, has some moments that create a sense of fear for readers that is no less than a horror manga. The two most prominent characters in this series are Shigaraki Tomura and Himiko Toga. Likewise, All For One’s dark past, with his manipulative and cruel experiments on children, is truly chilling.
My Hero Academia has entered the ultimate battle between heroes and villains. Fans of Kohei Horikoshi’s superhero stories can find some solace as the author has begun her next work. Hopefully Kohei Horikoshi’s horror manga will be as successful as My Hero Academia. .
