The producers of Komi Can’t Communicate released the anime’s elaborate opening scene ahead of the anime’s Netflix premiere.
The opening sequence for the anime Komi Can’t Communicate has been released soon.
A stunning animated trailer has been revealed on the official YouTube channel of Shogakukan-Shuiesha Productions, better known by the initials “ShoPro”, the animation studio behind anime series like Ranma 1/2 and Mega Man NT Warrior. The studio is currently producing an anime adaptation of Tomohito Oda’s popular manga. The anime’s theme song is “Cinderella”, performed by Japanese rock group Cider Girl.
Komi Can’t Communicate tells the story of Shoko Komi, an elegant girl who rarely talks to others. Komi is placed in the same class as Hitohito Tadano, a pretty average boy who likes to keep his head down and not peek out from the crowd. While Komi is known for being unapproachable due to her intimidating beauty and aloof demeanor, Tadano discovers that she is actually very nice, but very shy and socially awkward. Although he is not very famous himself, Tadano decides to help Komi overcome social anxiety and achieve his goal of making 100 friends.
The original manga of the series began serialization in 2016 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The series has been a critical and commercial success, with the first volume collected reaching a circulation of more than 5 million copies, and critics praising the series for its humor yet relatability. The manga has been officially localized into English and distributed in North America by VIZ Media.
The anime series will premiere in Japan on October 7 and will premiere internationally exclusively on Netflix on October 21. Unlike previous anime series released by Netflix, which typically waits until worthwhile episodes are available. For the price of an entire season before adding titles to its streaming service, Komi Can’t Communicate will release new episodes weekly. The anime is directed by Doraemon and Space Brothers’ Ayumu Watanabe and Yokai Watch’s Kazuki Kawagoe. Voice actor Aoi Koga, who is known for playing Kaguya Shinomiya in Kaguya-sama: Love is War, will voice Komi, while Black Clover’s Gakuto Kajiwara will voice Tadano.
In addition to the new anime series, a live-action adaptation of the series is also airing in Japan. Japanese model and actress Elaiza Ikeda, who also appears in the live-action adaptation of Kakegurui, voices Komi, while idol singer Masuda Takahisa voices Tadano. The live-action series has not been licensed for international release at this time, although Netflix has streamed the Kakegurui TV series outside of Japan.
