The American film distributor previously announced the English dubbing cast for the film, including:

- Mamadou Athie, Tony Revolori and Dan Stevens as The Parakeets
The boy and the heron made its international debut at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 7, then debuted in the United States at the 61st New York Film Festival, which took place from September 29 to October 15. The film is also set to premiere in other countries, including France and South Korea.

It is worth noting that The Boy And The Heron premiered without any promotional content in Japan on July 14. Although there was little marketing effort for the film, it earned $13.20 (1.83 billion yen) from July 14 to July 17, according to data from Comscore reported by Comscore. Hollywood Reporter. The film’s official Japanese title can be translated as How do you live and shares the same name with a novel by Yoshino Genzaburo, first published in 1937. The novel was republished in 1945 by Mira-sha Publishing House after World War II.
