A video that explores the content cut in the main Fallout 3 mission, from the birthday party to the reunion at the end of the game.
Fallout 3 has been out for nearly 14 years, but the game and its spin-off Fallout: New Vegas are still two of the franchise’s most beloved games. With so much time passed since Fallout 3’s release, it’s perhaps no surprise that it’s been mulled over by players. All of Fallout 3’s secrets have been revealed, including a large chunk of the game’s cut content. One content creator is doing what they can to catalog this cut content, with their latest video focusing on the main Fallout 3 storyline.
In a series called “Fallout 3: The Cut Room Floor”, the TriangleCity YouTube channel will bring back different aspects of the game with interesting cuts from Fallout 3. Previous Fallout 3 videos from the creator content includes “GURPS in Fallout 3?!”, “Weapon dropped in Fallout 3” and “Other truncated content in Fallout 3”. Their latest video is perhaps the most exciting part of TriangleCity in the series, as it’s an hour long dives into content cut from Fallout 3’s main plot that’s broken down into various main sections.
The first major area of the game’s major rework is the opening scene, which begins with a Fallout 3 player’s birthday party. The video details the protagonist’s father in more detail, and the different paths to life. Exit the Vault and restart some generators to open the Vault. TriangleCity theorizes that the entire chapter has been streamlined and altered to focus on a faster-paced, action-focused experience.
Other areas of focus in the video include Rivet City, Vault 112’s Tranquility Lane, the player’s father’s fate, The Citadel, Little Lamplight, Vault 87, Oasis, Liberty Prime, Project Impurity, Pipboy, and the end of the game . Suffice it to say that Bethesda has cut a lot of different story elements from the main line, including some that could have dramatically changed the experience, that could have made the game better or worse.
It’s not necessarily surprising that a product like Fallout 3 has such a large amount of cut content; it’s a big game, after all. Sometimes, plans change and large amounts of content have to be cut in time or because there are new limitations that Bethesda is not yet aware of. Often, however, content is tweaked simply to tell a better story. It’s important to remember that Fallout 3 is Bethesda’s first time moving the franchise into a third-person perspective. They may have learned a lot in the process. Those lessons were incorporated into the development of Season 4 and will likely be incorporated into the development of Season 5 in the future.
