Take-Two Interactive, the video game publisher that owns Rockstar and 2K Games, is set to acquire gaming company Zynga in a deal worth $12.7 billion. Cash and stock trading is expected to close in the first quarter of 2023, pending regulatory approval.
Take-Two Interactive’s acquisition of Zynga marks the company’s foray into the mobile game market. Take-Two is behind a bunch of today’s most popular games, including Grand Theft Auto (GTA), Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Borderlands, and NBA 2K.

Meanwhile, Zynga also has an impressive track record of its own, asserting the brand by putting some of its first games on Facebook, and FarmVille is a prime example. Zynga is also the creator of Words With Friends, an extremely popular game that appeared on Messenger a while ago. The company is also preparing to release Revamp, a game similar to Among Us on Snapchat.

Take-Two’s $12.7 billion acquisition is one of the biggest in video game history, with huge margins — bigger than Bethesda’s $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda. Microsoft, completed last March, and Tencent’s $8.57 billion acquisition of a stake in Supercell.
