Holding the position of Marketing Director of BP oil and gas company, Tony Beaumont can earn more than $200,000/year, in addition to many other attractive benefits such as being granted a free house and car by the company, etc. Tony is also a person. power when running 45 subordinates to solve many important problems of the company.
However, that was not enough to keep Tony in the director’s chair.
Tony’s share shows that this director’s job requires him to be online 24/7 to receive and respond to nearly 200 emails a day. In addition, Tony’s job forces him to spend most of his time in Melbourne (Australia) – where the company’s headquarters are located, which means Tony has to leave his family including his wife and 2 young children in Sydney. .

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Tony said:
“Maybe I have to change, I don’t want to leave the house in the middle of the night to go to the company to handle a lot of work, I just want to hug my children to sleep.”
In his youth, Tony worked as a part-time cleaner for McDonald’s restaurants. He thought why not continue this interesting work.
“Why not, I did it when I was young and it made me happy, now I want to be my own boss like back then.” Tony said.
Sharing more, Tony finds it fun to clean the stores and see the satisfied faces of customers as they leave.
However, the janitor’s way of working as a director must be different. Tony didn’t quit his job at BP entirely, but only asked to reduce his workload:
“Now I no longer come to work regularly, there are 10 people directly and 35 people indirectly reporting the work progress to me remotely.” Tony shared about the new direction.
He also founded and runs Jim’s Cleaning Bayview – a cleaning service provider in the northern suburbs of Sydney. Tony shared:
“There were times when I struggled financially with this new job, but that’s okay, money is not as important to me as being close to my family and taking care of my kids.”
The time of the outbreak of the pandemic was also the time when workers in Australia were “jumping jobs”. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that nearly 1.5 million people have changed their jobs so far this year, the highest rate since 2012.
