Square Enix has revealed the second installment in the unique Voice of Cards series titled The Forsaken Maiden, which will launch this month.
Regarding JRPGs, Square Enix is one of the most prominent developers in the genre. While there are some iconic franchises like Final Fantasy, the company has also released a lot of new products under its support. Square Enix released several games in 2021, such as Nier: Replicant, Bravely Default 2, and Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. The latter is a brand new game from the company, which is a card adventure game with Yoko Taro of Nier as its creative director. While the previous one came out last year, the development team is releasing another installment in the series called Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden.
Voice of Cards has a bunch of unique aspects that separate it from other JRPGs, with a heavy focus on storytelling. This allows for a much more unique experience, with an aesthetic that makes the entire game feel like a fun-filled adventure. The player has the ability to explore multiple paths in Voice of Cards, often associated with the works of Yoko Taro. With such an innovative design for a game, it’s no surprise that this game will be followed, with Taro’s team taking the lead again.
Square Enix has uploaded a new trailer announcing Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden, which details a new setting in which this game will take place. The trailer details that the game takes place on a remote island, where it has been protected by a generation of maidens. The island is now in danger, where the group must embark on a journey across the sea to stop this grim fate.
Some of the new characters from the Voice of Cards team are also introduced in this trailer. One is an unnamed young man who sets out on a journey to save the island, accompanied by a girl named Laty, who is described as unable to be one of the maidens on the island. Several other servants and maidens were present in the trailer, where they could aid in the battle or the story in some way.
The trailer shows a glimpse of what to expect in the game, with various footage of battles, in-game events, and more. It may come as a surprise to some fans that a sequel will be announced and released so quickly, considering the game was finally released last year in November. Given the gap too Between releases, it’s clear that Voice of Cards’ unique narrative-driven storytelling allows for more games and stories like this to be created in less time on a smaller scale.
