The Evolution Fruit’s “fantasy animal” story: Before I Knew it, My Life Had It Made! focused on Seiichi Hiiragi. Despite being at the bottom of the social order of his school, he and his entire school were turned upside down when everyone in the school was transported to another world. Seiichi finds himself alone and is approached by a gorilla who, instead of attacking him, proposes to him. At the moment Seiichi thinks “I guess a gorilla is fine”, they find the Fruit of Evolution and when they eat it, their lives suddenly change again.
Miku began posting the story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” (Let’s Be a Novelist) website in January 2014, where it is still ongoing. Futabasha’s Monster Bunko light novel label began publishing the novel in print in September 2014, with illustrations by U35 (Lapis Re:LiGHTs, character design Aquatope of White Sand).
Hanashi Media, a new manga and light novel publisher based in the United States, has licensed the light novel series in English and Spanish.
Sorano launched a manga adaptation of the novel on Futabasha’s Web Comic Action manga website in September 2017.
The novel inspired a previous television anime that premiered in October 2021 and has 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the film as it aired.
