The girl was hugged by a male colleague so tightly that she broke 3 of her ribs, she sued and was won by the court.
A woman in Yueyang, China sued a male colleague because his hug was so strong that she broke her ribs.
In May 2021, this girl was chatting when this guy walked up to her and greeted her with a hug. The girl screamed in pain. After that, she felt a pain in her chest but didn’t pay much attention, just applied hot oil to it. But 5 days later due to the pain was too unbearable, the new girl went to the hospital for examination and panicked when the doctor said that she had broken 2 right front ribs and one left rib.
During the treatment, both the girl and the fellow man negotiated several times about compensation but never reached an agreement. The male colleague said that after several days had passed, there was no way to prove that her broken ribs were caused by his embrace or other causes. Therefore, the girl filed a civil lawsuit with the Yunxi Court of Yueyang City, asking the male colleague to compensate for medical expenses, wages for unpaid days off and post-surgery expenses.
The court concluded that the hug of the male colleague caused the girl to break 3 ribs, so he had to pay 10,000 yuan (nearly 35 million VND). Although her injury was discovered five days after the hug, the court held that there was no evidence to prove that during those five days, the girl had any actions or incidents that resulted in broken ribs. Moreover, other colleagues also testified that the girl showed pain and screamed when being hugged.
