In the second trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder, the official image of Gorr the God Butcher was revealed and received mixed reviews.
Gorr the God Butcher by actor Christian Bale is an important character in Thor 4 and is also the main antagonist of the work. In the comics, Gorr is a mortal but possesses a sword with the ability to kill God, along with his own grudge, Gorr has traveled through the Universe and slaughtered countless Gods.
After the second trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder, fans have seen the official image of the character Gorr played by Bale. Immediately after the image of Gorr the God Butcher appeared, there was a lot of debate going on about the shape of the character. Many people feel that the MCU’s Gorr the God Butcher is not similar to the original comic book, and Marvel doesn’t even bother to use CGI effects for this character.
Many people also say that the feeling that Gorr brings is not as scary as expected, when this character has a rather “gentle” appearance, along with the All-Black the Necrosword sword that looks extremely “Alum” has made many fans feel that Gorr the God Butcher is very harmless.
However, most opinions are satisfied with the new look of the God Slayer. The majority of the audience agrees that it is extremely wasteful for Marvel to spend a lot of money to hire an actor as talented and capable as Christian Bale and then use CGI to modify his face. Instead, just put on a little makeup and we have a skinny, weird Gorr that still retains the actor’s wildness. However, the overly simple design of All-Black the Necrosword can’t be defended by anyone.
In the comics, Gorr the God Butcher was born on an unnamed planet, almost every day on the brink of famine. He was taught to trust the gods, but they never answered his prayers. As a child, his father and mother died, leaving Gorr to fend for himself in the harsh environment. Years later, he married and had several children. However, most of them died. Gorr’s pregnant mate, Arra, was killed in an earthquake, and his children died one by one until he was left with one son, Agar. As Agar was dying of hunger, Gorr sought to ease his grief and told his son that they would soon reach a forest where they would never go hungry again.
Grieving after Agar’s death, Gorr gave up hope and demonstrated that his faith was no longer dependent on the gods. After a fateful encounter, Gorr gained possession of the All-Black the Necrosword. Then Gorr began his journey to slaughter each god to take revenge for believing that the supreme beings had abandoned his race.
