The wholesomeness helps these Korean movie couples to be loved by the audience.
There are many Korean films that give audiences a feeling of comfort and inspiration thanks to a healthy love story. The two main characters come together for the purpose of loving, making progress together and making life meaningful, on the contrary, they have never hurt each other or meant to disrespect each other.
When Camellia Blooms
The film tells a love story in a small town but still full of optimism. The female lead Dong Baek (Gong Hyo Jin) carries on her shoulders many of the burdens of a single mother, left behind by a lousy husband. But the appearance of the guy Yong Sik (Kang Ha Neul) changed everything, bringing Dong Baek back to a joyful life.
In Yong Sik there is the energy of youth, dynamism and sophistication. He loves Dong Baek and her son, but he doesn’t “catch up” and still gives her the privacy to pursue her own desires. On the contrary, he will be a strong support, supporting her mentally (and sometimes physically), helping Dong Baek regain faith in love.
Gangnam Beauty
My ID Is Gangnam Beauty makes viewers hope for an unconditional love that transcends stereotypes about appearance and status. In the movie, the female lead Mi Rae (Im Soo Hyang) accidentally meets her old friend Kyung Suk (Cha Eun Woo), but now she has become much more beautiful than before. Because she was afraid of being recognized by Kyung Suk as a poor girl in the past, Mi Rae kept avoiding her, not knowing that Kyung Suk actually liked her for a long time.
But when she realized her feelings, Mi Rae was not timid but instead became courageous and determined to pursue her happiness. Mi Rae’s confidence and bravery made Kyung Suk even more loving, and the two eventually filled the void in each other’s souls. On the other hand, Mi Rae’s change in appearance is also expressed naturally, bringing a positive message that it’s okay if you strive to become a better, beautiful version of yourself.
Love distance
A healthy, positive love can lift a person out of despair, and that’s what happens in Just Between Lovers. After an unfortunate accident, Gang Doo (Lee Jun Ho) from a prospective soccer player has run out of hope, has to work many jobs that he doesn’t like for a living. It was not until he met Moon Soo (Wo Jin Ah) – a strong girl, determined to put aside the past to move towards his dream of being an engineer, that he really “wake up”.
Moon Soo and Gang Doo came together not only because they were both injured, but because they wanted to “heal” each other. Together, the two learn how to use the past to motivate the present, overcome unhappy thoughts to find happiness for themselves. In the end, both achieved their own success, and especially remained together until the finish line.
Fangirl’s Secret
Not the most famous movie of Park Min Young, but Her Private Life gives the audience a very meaningful and warm story. In the movie, Park Min Young plays Duk Mi – a talented girl who has a hobby of “swinging idols”. She had to hide this hobby from her boss Ryan (Kim Jae Wook), but later was still discovered by him. After both fake dates, feelings begin to appear real.
Park Min Young’s purity, loveliness and positivity have “healed” Ryan, giving him more motivation to get rid of his traumatic past. Thanks to her, he bravely faced tragedy and opened his heart to new love. And as a result, Ryan becomes an exemplary boyfriend, considerate and always loves, cares and respects Duk Mi to the fullest. What could be better than being able to be yourself in front of the person you love?
Step To The Heart
Shin Se Kyung is a beauty that often causes controversy because of her acting, but with Run On, she has made great progress. In Run On, Min Joo (Shin Se Kyung) is a subtitle translator and falls in love with former track and field athlete Sun Kyum (Im Si Wan). It would not be worth mentioning if the love story of the two is quite realistic, not “pink” but still spreading a positive spirit.
It took Min Joo and Sun Kyum a long time to fall in love with each other, but there was no such thing as “just met and fell in love”. They also do not often have deep, flowery conversations, on the contrary, more action. However, viewers can still feel the refreshment in the main couple’s way of love, which is not exaggerated but very calm and stable.
