I Am Groot is an American animated short series produced and shown on the Disney+ service, based on the Marvel Comics character Groot. It features characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Baby Groot on various adventures that get him into trouble, set in the middle of the finale of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017). The series is produced by Marvel Studios with Lepore serving as the main writer and director.
Vin Diesel takes over as the voice of Baby Groot from the MCU movies, with Bradley Cooper also starring. I Am Groot was announced in December 2020, and Luma Pictures began filming in August 2021. Lepore’s involvement was revealed in November of that year.
I Am Groot officially launches with 5 short episodes on Disney + on August 10, 2022, and the film is part of phase 4 of the MCU. Five additional short episodes are in development.
On the occasion of the TV series I Am Groot released on Disney +, Marvel also announced the Timeline after the MCU’s rearrangement.
Accordingly, on Disney + has officially updated the MCU timeline, placing the episodes of I Am Groot before the event of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
