DICE’s new general manager said the studio “doesn’t have time” to pursue the Mirror’s Edge 3 project, which will probably be sad news for fans.
Although the studio has primarily worked with the Battlefield franchise for the past 20 years, it has occasionally developed other games, including the Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars Battlefront series. In her first interview since joining the company last November, GamesIndustry.biz asked Rebecka Coutaz if Mirror’s Edge game development has been scrapped altogether?
“Of course it is,” she replied. “We’re just focusing on Battlefield 2042. There’s no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years’ time, we want to be the major first-person shooter publisher DICE deserves to be, and that’s what we’re aiming for.” After a disappointing launch for Battlefield 2042, Coutaz said DICE spent more than six months “fixing and improving” the game to the point where it felt confident to launch its first delayed piece of live content. at the beginning of June and she claims the developer has received good feedback from gamers.
“Players are enjoying our maps and the content we offer, so it’s a win for us right now, it makes us feel better. “The team is here to develop Battlefield and they are passionate about Battlefield. We have many veterans who were involved in the development of the Battlefield series. So it’s important that we improve Battlefield 2042 and deliver the best experience we can offer our players. We owe them that.” EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced in May that the company remains committed to Battlefield 2042 in the long run.
“This is one of the coolest brands in our industry, built by one of the great development teams, and our expectation is to continue to grow and become a really important part of it. important in our list of projects to invest in for many years to come,” he said. EA has committed to releasing four seasons of live-service content for Battlefield 2042 over the course of the past year. Earlier this month, it was reported that the Battlefield 2042 DLC is being worked on by a development team focused solely on delivering the promised seasonal content. It will probably be a long time before we can see a new version of Mirror Edge that will satisfy fans like the previous two games.
