Overlord’s author, Kugane Murayame, revealed to fans on Twitter that the new volume of the Japanese light novel series will be split in half due to its size.
Kodoani.com – Kugane Maruyama, the author of the Japanese light novel series Overlord, has informed fans that the next volume of the dark legend novel will be split in two.
As reported by Anime News Network, Maruyama took to Twitter to say that, as the draft of the upcoming episode has exceeded 700 pages, some of the content of episode 15 will be turned into episode 16. Maruyama’s tweet wished fans Happy New Year, promising that he and his team are working hard to release the new episode as soon as possible. Maruyama also expressed hope that fans will be patient for the next part of the story.
The story of Overlord takes place inside a popular online RPG called YGGDRASIL, which is about to close. The main character Momonga decides to log in for as long as possible. However, when the servers went down, Momonga was surprised to discover that the game was still intact, with its NPCs starting to become sentient. Finding himself trapped in this new world, Momonga takes the name ‘Ainz Ooal Gown’ and makes his way through the game to find someone or something that can help him unravel the mystery.

Overlord has been extremely popular since it began being published online on the novel publishing website Arcadia in 2010. Enterbrain Publishing subsequently acquired the series and released 14 volumes of Overlord in Japan for now. Yen Press later acquired the rights to publish the series in English in 2015, has since released the first 13 volumes of the series. Overlord was the best-selling light novel series of 2015, and its light novel series and manga adaptation have totaled over 7 million copies in print as of April 2018. Maruyama previously informed fans that The series will end with the release of volume 17.
The light novel has also been adapted into an anime series of the same name produced by studio Madhouse (Hunter x Hunter (2011)). The film’s Japanese voice cast features such talents as Satoshi Hino (Haikyuu!!), Mamoru Miyano (Death Note) and Masayuki Katou (Naruto: Shippuden). Three seasons with a total of 39 episodes have now aired of the anime, with a fourth season set to premiere in 2022. An anime has also been announced along with a new season that will adapt the Overlord’s Holy Kingdom Season .
