Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that the next game in the Call of Duty series will be called Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
The developer posted the official title of the game on its Twitter page, the name was changed to Modern Warfare 2. Activision previously confirmed that the next game will be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, but this This is the first time Modern Warfare 2 has been officially confirmed. Infinity Ward first hinted at the game’s reveal last week that the game itself is set to reveal the gaming community. Last week, studio Activision posted dark images rife on social media, changing their profile pictures and profile picture to what initially appeared to be complete darkness.
However, when brightened, the images revealed to be the silhouette of Call of Duty fan favorite character, Ghost, who first appeared in the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2. As was first reported last September, Modern Warfare 2’s campaign will revolve around the war on drugs against Colombian cartels. Sources say the game’s campaign will feature a storyline described as “a more intense campaign in Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign”, with more melee, tough decision making and Classic Call of Duty set-piece moments that fans have come to expect.
We also previously reported that Modern Warfare 2 will release with a brand new map for Warzone, a third brand new arena will be launched for the battle royale spin-off. Activision officially confirmed earlier this week that the new Call of Duty: Warzone is in development and will be revealed later this year. The announcement comes as part of Activision Blizzard’s Q1 2022 financial results, which announced that the new Warzone will be built from the ground up alongside the new Modern Warfare title.
“The Call of Duty teams delivered significant gameplay improvements to Vanguard and Warzone during the first quarter,” the Activision statement reads. “Premium experience-based development of the projects of the year and Warzone currently led by Infinity Ward is progressing very well. “This year’s Call of Duty is the sequel to Modern Warfare, the most successful Call of Duty title to date and will be the most advanced experience in series history.”
If Ghost does appear in the next game, as Infinity Ward hinted at last week, he may not be voiced by an actor like in the previous game. Jeff Leach voiced Ghost in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, but Activision has announced that he is no longer involved in the series after a series of false comments surfaced online recently.
