Kengan Omega began focusing on the new characters who built the journey, but only revealed the main source of conflict of the story in Chapter 2.
The beginning of the Kengan Omega focuses on introducing Koga into the series as a beginner martial artist explores the underworld of martial arts. However, in Chapter 2, Koga steps aside as the story follows Kazuo to the heart of the real plot: Into Purgatory.
With readers sure to marvel at a new round of tournaments, the series introduces its true competition in the form of a martial arts organization that could give the Kengan Association a run for the money.
The chapter begins with the focus still on Koga, living with Kazuo as he prepares for his new life as a martial artist’s apprentice for the Kengan Association. He meets Kazuo’s son, shares a meal, and goes out for a day of work. As the company’s overlord was the first to bring Kazuo into the world of Kengan battles, Nogi occupies an important place in the organization’s power structure. And it looks like that organization is struggling.
There is a new rival to the Kengan Association called Purgatory. Although the Kengans are considered the most elite warriors in the land, Purgatory is a promising one that specializes in hunting many warriors from the Kengan Association. There’s also trouble as leaked images and information about Kengan’s underground battles bring Koga to Kazuo’s doorstep for the first time, and because the organization works best in the dark, leaving them under threat. . Since it became clear that the leaks could come from the organization itself, Nogi was concerned that the threat could come from within.
The news that shocked Kazuo most was that Purgatory’s growing size and momentum made them such a threat that the Kengan Association needed to consider a merger with the rival organization. Nogi intends to attend a meeting with the head of Purgatory, a guy named Toyoda Idemitsu, and negotiate a tournament between the organizations. The winner takes all of the loser. Nogi needs a keen eye on Kazuo’s skill and strategy to select the best fighters to represent the Kengan Association in the tournament while he arrives at the meeting to negotiate its rules.
With such high stakes, it’s surprising that the chapter could end with an even greater shock than the reveal of the main plot. The shock comes when Koga investigates the Kengan files on the warriors they have, starting to ask after the photo of Tokita Ohma that he has kept him in his quest to find Ohma. As he pulled out the painting, a newcomer to the office startled him into dropping it: It looked like it was Ohma himself. Since Ohma has been dead since the end of the previous series, the new character caused quite a stir until he was revealed to be actually someone named Gaoh Ryuki.
Koga seems eager to prove himself against the character he has given the series so far to hunt, and the chapter concludes by bringing its personal stakes and main plot to light. With Ryuki’s origins still a mystery, it will be until the next chapter to see if he even gets a chance to explain himself before Koga confronts him.
However, learning more about the upcoming tournament with Purgatory is sure to be the main fan attraction. Tournaments of martial skill are at the heart of the story, and with the greatest fighters of two different organizations pitted against each other, it could turn out to be one of the most intriguing.
