Gumayusi has stated that he will not let G2 “repeat history” with T1 in the past at MSI and Worlds 2019.
At MSI 2022, T1 surprised many people when they lost their winning streak and lost to 3 teams Evil Geniuses, G2 Esports and Royal Never Give Up. This has made T1 lose the top 1 position in the Melee round as well as the right to choose an opponent in the semi-finals. So T1 will have to clash with G2 Esports in the semifinals (because RNG chose EG).
In particular, in the last 2 confrontations with G2 Esports, T1 (SKT T1) was eliminated in the semi-finals at both MSI and Worlds 2019. Faced with this “sad past”, Gumayusi shared in the press conference. before the knockout round:
“I know T1 was beaten by G2 in 2019, but it’s different now. If we play well, we can win. In that, this confrontation with G2 (semi-final) made the game interesting, and I am proud to be here.” – G2 talked about emotions before going to the semi-finals.
Talking about the Melee round, Gumayusi said: “At first, competing in the Melee round was a bit stressful, but now the pressure has decreased a lot. We will play the semi-final without any pressure.”
Finally, Gumayusi made a confident statement to G2 Esports: “As I said before, T1 2019 and T1 2022 are different. This time, G2 don’t expect to win.”
