The touching yet humorous story about the demon-slaying journey of two brothers Tanjiro and Nezuko has touched many hearts. The story is set in a remote mountainous area in Japan. The main character Yamaemori Mamoru is cursed by a curse that forces him to stay on the mountain to destroy the Tengu demon that is plaguing the temple left by his parents. Even though he hated that cramped life, Mamoru was still determined to stay on the mountain and fight the terrifying monsters day after day.
The love for his younger brother became the greatest source of motivation to help him steadfastly fight. Following Mamoru, readers can see the silhouette of the “national brother” – Tanjiro. Mamoru was always devoted to his younger brothers, he wanted to make sure that none of his younger brothers would have to endure the terrible war he was going through every day. But then, an incident occurred, the youngest brother was attacked by the Tengu and to save his brother, Mamoru ate the Tengu – the monster he hated the most.
Unable to escape his predetermined fate, he was prophesied from a young age that he would have to die young to serve others. His two younger brothers are Mamoru’s greatest comfort.
The opening motifs of “Three Exorcism Siblings” and “The Demonic Sword” are quite similar. However, author Shinta Harekawa has his own way of developing content and characters. The manga is tagged seinen, so even though it has the same demon-slaying theme, “Three Exorcism Siblings” is more sensational and “heavy”. Through each chapter of the story, readers become more nervous to wait for the next developments. Shinta Harekawa’s way of building the plot always makes readers curious because it is impossible to predict what will happen next. This is the attraction of this manga.
