Although Square Enix’s announcement didn’t include a cause of death, Kayaharuka had been suffering from pancreatic cancer since at least 2019. The manga adaptation of The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History’s Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and light novels and Goes to School with His Descendants (Maou Gakuin no Futekigōsha ~Shijō Saikyō no Maō no Shiso, Tensei Shite Shison-tachi no Gakko e Kayo) was canceled last week so Kayaharuka could receive treatment, but Kayaharuka had passed away at the time. that of last week’s announcement on Wednesday, July 7.
In Kayaharuka’s statement about canceling the manga, they said that while they regret the manga had to end this way, they will cherish their time working on it.
