Unlocked is a Korean horror and dramatic film that has just been released on Netflix. The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by author Akira Teshigawara, with a relatively new script compared to the current Korean film average.
The story revolves around Lee Na Mi (Chun Woo Hee) – a young girl who is a marketer with a normal life, everything revolves around work, family and the phone. One day, she fell asleep on the bus after a drunken session with friends, resulting in her phone being dropped. It wasn’t until the next morning that she realized her phone was gone. There will be no serious problems so her phone is not picked up by a sick killer named Jun Yeong (Im Si Wan). He planned to install spyware on the computer, then a series of days all Na Mi’s secrets were controlled by Jun Yeong, her life was also completely ruined.
The script is so attractive, but Unlocked is said to have not exploited the full potential of the original novel, even making the novel fans extremely disappointed. The film lacks logic and has almost no climax, the audience cannot understand the killer’s behavior as well as the connection between the characters.
In particular, the way the character of Na Mi is built makes viewers extremely uncomfortable. She lives in a house with no code, trusting a strange man instead of her best friend. Get angry and cut off contact with your best friend because of a small misunderstanding, resulting in self-harm. Their friendship turns shallow and ridiculous. And most of all, when she learned that her phone was hacked, Na Mi decided to use it as if nothing happened. With the idea that everyone can become a victim of the 4.0 era, even the most ordinary people, Na Mi turns herself into an abnormal person, constantly bringing disaster to herself.
Audience comments:
-The movie has a lot of absurdities, it feels boring to watch, maybe it’s because I have too much expectations
– The idea is good, the cast matches the role, makes an impression, but it feels like this movie has not come yet. Haven’t read the story and only watched the movie, many segments are broken, lacking logic, not seamless, it feels like the movie has been cut quite a lot to be able to wrap it up in less than 2 hours.
-I still don’t understand the reason for the murder after watching it, and the female lead just feels like she’s going to die
– Normal movies. Si Wan is good at acting and the female lead is like “can you see me acting” so it’s not natural
– The movie is fine but the climax hasn’t come yet, so it’s not that scary. The director seems to be afraid of the audience’s heart attack
