The long-running anime One Piece revealed the beloved series’ 25th anniversary logo earlier this week on X.
Toei Animation posted on its account a short video revealing the logo, stating: “2024 will be the 25th anniversary of the anime series ONE PIECE! This is a special logo made for the celebration! Stay tuned for what happens next year!” The logo below depicts the moment Luffy received his signed hat from Shanks.
History of One Piece
One Piece began as a manga series created by Eiichiro Oda. It tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, who dreams of becoming the Pirate King. The manga focuses on Luffy’s adventures with the Straw Hat pirates as they search for the mythical treasure called “One Piece” at sea. The manga was first published in May 1997 in Weekly Shonen Jump, more than 26 years ago. Since then, it has become the best-selling and most loved manga series in the world. The manga series continues to this day, making it not only the best-selling manga series of all time but also one of the longest running.
The One Piece anime, produced by Toei Animation, first aired in October 1999. The first season ran for 61 episodes and ended in March 2001. As of the time of this writing, the anime has 20 seasons with over 1,000 episodes . To celebrate the anime’s 25th anniversary, it was announced that the One Piece YouTube channel would stream the anime non-stop for a year. This means fans, both old and new, can watch the film for free. The channel will begin airing the anime on Sunday, October 29.
On August 31 of this year, the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of One Piece was released on Netflix. While many live-action anime adaptations are ultimately not well received by fans, the One Piece live-action series has surpassed all expectations, leaving viewers extremely excited. While many hoped that the film would be a success, mainly due to Oda being the main advisor, the film’s popularity still surprised some. The second season of the live-action adaptation has been announced, and earlier this week, audiences got a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Season 2 of One Piece.
The One Piece anime will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2024. It can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix and viewed on the One Piece YouTube channel starting October 29.
