Recently, the official Twitter account for artist Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga announced that the manga has sold more than 25 million copies in print. Currently, the Tokyo Revengers manga has also come to an end since early June.
Tokyo Revengers had about 10 million copies sold at the end of March before the anime premiered in April. Takuya Watanabe of Kodansha Publishing’s sales department said that what supported the doubling in circulation was the volume. Female readers increased due to the popularity of handsome characters.
Marketing firm AMF reported on Wednesday that Tokyo Revengers was the #2 trending keyword in the category of items for Japanese middle and high school girls in the first half of 2021.
The content is about Takemichi, a virgin unemployed youth, who learns that the first and only girl he dated since high school has died. After an accident, he finds himself transported back to his middle school days. He vows to change the future and keep that girl, and in order to do so, he decides to rise to become the most notorious gang boss in the Kantou region.
Wakui launched the manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017, and the Kodansha publisher has published 21 volumes for the manga. The anime adaptation begins airing on April 10, 2021.
