Yui Aragaki as a novelist who adopts an orphaned niece
Kodoani.com – The Tokyo Theater Company announced on Tuesday that it is producing a live-action film adaptation of the manga. Ikoku Nikki Tomoko Yamashita’s (Diary of a Strange Land) will premiere in Japan in 2024 and will star Yui Aragaki as protagonist Makio Kōdai.
Natsuki Seta will direct and write the script for the film.
The manga revolves around 35-year-old novelist Makio Kōdai and her 15-year-old niece Asa, who live together under one roof. Makio receives Asa on a sudden impulse after Asa’s parents, including Makio’s older sister, pass away. The next day, Makio wakes up and remembers that she doesn’t do well with other people. So their daily life begins, as Makio tries to adapt to a roommate, while Asa tries to get used to an adult who never behaves like that.
Yamashita launched the manga in June 2017 in Shodensha’s Feel Young magazine, where it is still ongoing. Shodensha published the manga’s 10th volume on February 8.
Yamashita launched the boys’ supernatural mystery manga The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window in Libre Publishing’s BExBOY Magazine in March 2013 and ended it in December 2020. The manga also moved for a television anime to premiere in October 2021.
