But over time, the story evolved into a Shonen manga and became more combat-focused. With only 42 episodes, Dragon Ball still achieved impressive sales with more than 250 million copies sold.
4. Famous Detective Conan
Detective Conan is one of the oldest manga in the Japanese manga industry. With more than 100 episodes, this series is twice as long as Dragon Ball and only inferior to One Piece. The series has become a classic Japanese manga, each new volume revolving around a case that shrunken detective Shinichi Kudo must solve.
The series is currently ranked 4th in the best-selling manga chart of all time, with over 250 million copies sold.
Doraemon by Fujiko F. Fujio is a “national” comic series, which is not only familiar to young Japanese but also extremely popular with international readers. With such great coverage, it’s no surprise that this manga series has successfully sold over 250 million copies.
Over the past 15 years of publication, Naruto has become one of the most popular manga series and continues to maintain that position. Dubbed one of the “Shonen Manga trilogy”, Naruto has sold more than 250 million copies and this number shows no sign of stopping.
7. Slam Dunk
Slam Dunk is one of the classic Japanese manga series, known and loved by many readers. Following in the footsteps of Hanamichi Sakuragi, Slam Dunk follows the journey of him and the Shohoku high school basketball team, with the desire to become the best basketball team in Japan. Slam Dunk has sold more than 170 million copies, helping to attract more young people to the sport of basketball.
Besides the hit series of Shonen Jump, there is also a lesser known series but equally best-selling KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops. The manga has sold over 156 million copies, making Cops the 8th best selling series in manga history. Additionally, the series was published between 1976 and 2016, making it one of the longest running manga series of all time.
9. Demon Slayer
Rising star Demon Slayer has also become a name that many people care about over the years. Despite being much younger than the manga above, Demon Slayer is still in the top 10 best-selling manga of all time, with sales of 150 million copies sold with only 23 volumes.
10. Shin-Chan Pencil Boy
Another comic series associated with Vietnamese readers’ childhood is Shin-Chan The Pencil Boy, also in the top 10 best-selling manga. Pencil Boy Shin-Chan is aimed at children, but that hasn’t stopped even older readers from loving the manga. Overcoming many other famous manga, Pencil Boy Shin-Chan ranks 10th on the list with only 58 volumes at the moment.
