Before coming to 2022, let’s take a look at some of the disappointing names in the top 10 bad anime rankings of 2021 with Game4V.
Anime in 2021 has a few new things compared to 2020, 2019, … Many names catch up with trends, some are controversial, but some are created superficially.
Adaptation does not come, the content is bland, inconsistent in expression. These are the main reasons for the title of worst anime of 2021. Here is the list of worst anime of 2021 according to Game4V.

1. My Hero Academia Ss5
My Hero Academia Ss5 is not as bad as the rest of the anime in the worst anime chart of 2021. But to be honest, when compared to the overall season of MHA, season 5 is a lot weaker. Personally, I feel this season has gone too far into the side story.
If we are comparing previous seasons, season 4 easily beats season 5 in every respect. The big reveal of Shigaraki Tomura’s past and how this villain is built is pretty good. Some of the main action scenes are also attractive.
Shoto Todoroki’s training and arcs are fine, but combined with everything else, the anime hasn’t regained the charm of the early seasons. That makes it disappointing for the writer.
2. I’m Standing On 1 Million Lives Ss2
I’m Standing On 1 Million Lives premieres in 2020. I watched from start to finish. Not the best Isekai series, but it does have some elements that stand out and are a bit different.
The main character, a pragmatist, is the reason for the overall vibe and feel of this anime. However, season 2 was a bit disappointing. The story becomes a bit stale and starts to lack creativity. But more than anything else, the neatness of the plot begins to lose its appeal with each episode.
3. Takt op. Destiny
Takt op. Destiny was created by MAPPA and MadHouse to promote the mobile game of the same name. It’s clearly gotten a lot of attention from MAPPA’s fanbase since the studio’s 10th anniversary event.
I myself was very excited about the first 2-3 episodes of the anime but quickly, superficial signs of the plot appeared. The film has a very small cast of characters, the content is very simple, the context is extremely sketchy like the way it deploys the content and exploits the characters.
With only a few episodes, viewers can easily feel Takt op. Destiny has no focus, it’s just a bunch of sloppy cutscenes. The lack of a clear main character without a clear purpose of action is one thing, and the villains are also extremely unconvincing in action motivation and influence.
Overall, Takt op. Destiny is a downfall of MAPPA after a series of quality products. I have absolutely no curiosity to watch any full episode since episode 5 and it doesn’t seem to affect the viewing experience at all.
4. Scarlet Nexus
Scarlet Nexus was also adapted from a video game. The visuals in the anime are quite impressive and engaging enough to feel like it will be a hit. The anime begins with some dramatic premise, fight scenes, and then prepares to face off against monsters of all kinds. Overall it’s okay with an anime promoting the game at first.
There are many characters in the story of Scarlet Nexus. It finally got darker in episode 3 when there was a big reveal, but suddenly the anime started to get boring from there.
A good opening concept for a sci-fi movie comes from an original story, but the adaptation doesn’t work at all and is just average, nothing memorable.
5. Peach Boy Riverside
The thing that annoys me the most about this anime is that it has the most potential out of the many anime series of the same year. It’s really hard for me to list it in the worst anime chart of 2021.
The first episode is a solid start, brutal, shocking and right to the point. It sets the stage and makes you curious, forcing you to keep watching for what happens next. But suddenly, the director decided to shuffle the viewing order and intentionally broadcast each episode at random. So episode 2 would be episode 8, episode 3 could be episode 5,…
It’s all messy and obviously very unnecessary. The more I watch it, the more I feel to the point where all the quality of the first episode is built to fall because the disturbance makes you lose interest. I don’t know if the director played the need to smoke while working to come to the worst decision I’ve ever seen in the anime industry?
6. How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ss2
How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ss2 is a surprisingly bad sequel in my opinion. The first season was a lot better than I expected.
Season 2 is a heavy ecchi anime but some of the ecchi episodes are off the mark and that could be the reason why it turned out to be disappointing compared to the purpose and to the first season itself. As with the other anime on this list, the problem is that the story loses its grip, relies on too many clichés, and doesn’t have anything solid enough to keep the anime interesting.
7. The Detective Is Already Dead
The Detective Is Already Dead is off to a good start. Indeed a very good start with 45 minutes of time for episode 1. In that initial expectation, I thought I was about to see a Tokyo Ghoul.
Siesta is a well-crafted character. And it’s true that there is only good shaping, nothing more, nothing less. While the male protagonist is completely passive. They combine together to form a very “dumb” duo. This seems to be the fault of the story itself and adaptability in general.
I don’t care if the original is better than the anime or if the anime just sucks. This anime basically encountered a situation where it was impossible to maintain entertainment, humor and, importantly, curiosity in the audience. That becomes clear when you watch it for a few episodes. The Detective Is Already Dead is not a good anime let alone good at all, it really disappoints me heavily.
8. Girlfriend Girlfriend
This is the kind of anime that from the moment I read the synopsis, I had to search for its original source. Basically I’m curious what kind of story can accept girls sharing such love?
This anime takes things to another level. The main character basically has multiple girlfriends and how the hell they all agree. It’s an anime that focuses on the concept of “polygamy”.
Not that this kind of anime is profanity, which, if handled properly, could be much better. Just like how Rent A Girlfriend used to do. But the way Girlfriend Girlfriend implements the topic of “polygamy” is too cheesy, ridiculous and extremely lacking in art. This is a bad anime, with nothing but indiscriminately erotic scenes.
9. The Promised Neverland Ss2
Maybe it’s because the first season of The Promised Neverland was overrated in my eyes. I think season 1 was great so season 2 will be great too. But we all know where that went.
The second season of The Promised Neverland fell “bag” because of a bad adaptation. The inconsistencies, the changes in the plot, going with the anime’s own flow, etc. Season 2 has clearly made its own point. It’s the worst sequel I’ve ever seen. Manga fans have also received enough disappointment to flatly rate it 5/10 on MAL.
Ex-Arm really doesn’t need many words. It’s so bad that it can also be some kind of achievement, because even the worst anime of the past has never been this bad.
Ex-Arm is a “Crunchyroll Original”, so this explains why the product is not the best. But mainly about the anime treatment and how it is portrayed in the cartoon. Currently, the anime has been ranked as the most “no hope” animated film of all time on anime review sites. Not even Pupa or School Days are on the same level as Ex-Arm’s lousy level. It is also the most deserving name for the worst anime title of 2021. Haha!!!
