The film is still the story of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he deliberately avoids promotion after 36 years of service. One day, Maverick is summoned to take charge of training a group of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission, at the behest of Maverick’s friend and former rival, Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky , who commanded the United States Pacific fleet. Among those trained by Pete was Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late best friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.
