Trek to Yomi draws inspiration from the old Kurosawa samurai movies, and the game’s live-action launch trailer pays homage to these films.

The launch trailer for the action game Trek to Yomi is inspired by the samurai movies. Developed by the developer of the Shadow Warrior reboot – Flying Wild Hog, the newly launched game takes players on a journey into the Japanese underworld. A recent Trek to Yomi demo demonstrated how the game inspired by the samurai movies by Akira Kurosawa and Flying Wild Hog pays homage to these cinematic classics in a new trailer. .

Trek to Yomi celebrates Kurosawa films, and the samurai film genre in general, through its striking black and white visual style. The recently released game puts players in the role of Hiroki, a samurai warrior tasked with protecting his village from bandits and enemies. Stylish gameplay with a combat system that allows players to stab, slash and overcome enemies in a rhythmic and methodical manner. In addition to combat, Trek to Yomi players navigate three-dimensional space that adds grandeur to the feudal Japanese version of the Flying Wild Hog. Many gamers have compared Ghost of Tsushima and Trek to Yomi, but the two samurai titles are very different.

A premiere trailer for Trek to Yomi, posted to YouTube by publisher DevolverDigital, delivers on its influences by creating a Kurosawa-style fight scene. The live-action trailer begins with a voiceover from a straw hat samurai, who then takes on four opponents in a vivid black and white battle. The use of wide shots and only a few angles allows for an exciting action sequence that recreates Trek into Yomi’s two-way battle. The actual game closes off the launch trailer, emphasizing the similarities between samurai cinema and the game itself. Players will be able to make their own trip to Yomi as of May 5.

Trek to Yomi

Trek to Yomi is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Although the game is available on multiple platforms, Trek to Yomi on Xbox Game Pass is probably the easiest and most effective way to enjoy the feudal adventure. The game launched day one on Microsoft’s popular streaming service, meaning subscribers can immediately use the Kurosawa-inspired samurai simulator with no additional purchase. The launch availability of certain titles is a huge draw for many Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as it essentially offers players new games for free.

Trek to Yomi carries its influences proudly, with Akira Kurosawa’s cinematic style and art playing a huge role in the making of the blockbuster. The new live-action launch trailer successfully shows how to create a cinematic classic of its own while still reflecting the game’s two-way combat. With Trek to Yomi now available, gamers can immediately embark on their own Kurosawa-inspired quest into mystical Japan.
