One of the most popular teams in North American esports is getting very close to moving to a new region.
TSM has become one of the most popular League of Legends teams since the organization was founded in 2011, but according to a report by Richard Lewis from Dexerto, the organization is very close to the prospect of leaving. LCS.
Dexerto sources say that TSM recently considered selling slots in its LCS due to three main factors: reducing costs for their various e-sports projects, the level of competition in the region, along with the declining popularity of League of Legends in general in North America.
There are also sources claiming that TSM is looking to join the LEC through slots Misfits Gaming just left. The organization raised several key questions about a possible sale before Team Heretics decided to shell out the slot for a reported price tag of between $45 million and $50 million.
The move is made because it makes financial sense for them to enter Europe’s premier league, especially given the pace of development the league has seen over the past few years. By comparison, the LCS has seen a steady decline in its peak viewership, with the 2022 Spring Split most recently peaking at 387,000 viewers. Meanwhile, the LEC has not had a peak below 723,000 in any season since the 2019 Summer Split so far.
Going back to TSM, things are looking tough not only for their League of Legends team but for the entire organization. According to Dexerto’s sources, TSM is cutting budgets across all of its esports divisions and will sell off more players in the near future.
TSM’s League of Legends team struggled to find success throughout the 2022 LCS Summer Split, as they are currently just above the bottom team Dignitas with a disastrous 3-8 record. It didn’t help that their roster went through a lot of changes over the past year, with several players coming and going in the official lineup.
TSM has just three weeks left to try to qualify for a playoff spot before their dream of a Worlds slot is officially over. Regarding the information about leaving the LCS, the TSM Board of Directors is currently refusing to comment on this matter.
