Recently, Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, said that making the game “needs a bit of friction” controversially.
This has caused controversy online about the game-making environment, the game industry says. Accordingly, Mr. Guillemot was recently interviewed by a newspaper and said: “It is not easy to make a game, it is a challenge, there is always tension. To be creative, you need a little friction, because everyone has to succeed in expressing their ideas. Work can lead you to success, but it’s not easy.”
Yves Guillemot’s comment “needs a little friction” immediately sparked controversy in the community. For a long time, the issue of the workplace environment at Ubisoft has been mentioned by many people and expressed displeasure regarding issues of workplace harassment and conflicts among employees.
CEO Yves Guillemot caused controversy with a new statement.
Following the incident, several executives at Ubisoft were fired, with many employees criticizing Ubisoft for its insignificant change. “What we are seeing is not good, the promises are empty, and the violators have not been punished properly,” – a former Ubisoft employee said.
Guillemot has previously denied the above claim, saying that many of the outstanding issues of the past time have been corrected, resulting in a more stable work environment. “We’ve fired some people quickly, and now there’s absolutely no room for a toxic culture in Ubisoft or the gaming industry,” the CEO emphasized.
Ubisoft’s office environment has been notorious for a long time.
“When I talk about sometimes needing a little friction, I think about the creative stresses that are common and important in innovative companies like ours,” says Guillemot. Everyone is free to challenge ideas and engage in lively yet productive debates… We’ve made great strides in gaming over the past two and a half years to deliver a safe experience. and good for all of our groups. Having a healthy, respectful work environment is our top priority.”
Guillemot and Ubisoft have previously pointed to employee surveys showing that the company is on the right track, including in a recent interview about the work environment. He thinks that what he said is completely correct and only somewhere misunderstood the meaning of his statement.
