INTERNATIONAL_ Last month NPD said that revenue from spending on games in the US has decreased, even for products that are supposed to be hot.
New studies show that US users are tending to download mobile games more than in the past time. A new report from Sensor Tower shows that mobile game revenue in the US increased by 69% year-on-year, mainly from MiHoYo’s game product: Genshin Impact.
Specifically, Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched and quickly ranked at No. 1 on the sales chart, followed by Call of Duty: Vanguard and Monster Hunter Rise.
Game revenue from the US market decreased slightly last month.
In January, US consumer spending on games reached $4.7 billion, down 2% year-over-year according to the latest NPD data.
However, user spending for the month on hardware jumped 22% year-over-year to $390 million. The market research team said this is the highest level of hardware sales for the month since January 2009’s total of $447 million.
Among console sales, Sony’s PlayStation 5 is the best-selling platform for both units and dollars while the Xbox Series system is second.
As for the game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus debuted at number 1 in January while Call of Duty: Vanguard reached number two. Capcom’s Monster Hunter: Rise has risen to become the third best-selling game of the month.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus has good sales.
Spending on accessories fell 15% year-over-year, totaling $185 million in January. The best-selling accessory of the month is the Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller.
