A vegan restaurant has decided to include meat on the menu due to the cost of living crisis in the UK.
Mango Tree restaurant in Taunton, Somerset (UK), closed on September 3 for renovations, including an update to the new meat menu.
They are not the only vegan restaurant that has struggled in recent years due to a lack of guests. However, for vegetarians, they criticize that Mango Tree selling meat is worse than shutting down.
Mango Tree insists they have no other choice:
“This work has helped us spread our ethics to our employees, to whom we owe a lot. In the near future, Mango Tree will undergo an exciting period of change.
We will be offering new dishes and offering takeout, with the same location and staff. It is very difficult to maintain the vegan restaurant model because there are not enough customers to support us.”
Many patrons at Mango Tree expressed disappointment with the new change:
– I like to come here for the quality vegetarian dishes and accept high prices. But now they are turning away from vegan values. Now they will be like any other expensive restaurant, I won’t be back
– What a disgrace
– Veganism is not a business but an ethical philosophy to bring out the best in animals, the planet and public health.
– Selling meat dishes will definitely affect the experience of vegetarian customers when coming to the restaurant
Many luxury vegan restaurants in the UK have had to close due to a lack of customers.
Miami Burger restaurant in Reading – which specializes in selling 100% vegan burgers has had to close after only 6 months of operation. Another vegan restaurant, Since 1847 in Manchester, closed three months ago after nine years of operation.
